200 cyclists in Sanya battle it out on World Car Free Day
More than 200 cyclists rode their bicycles in central Sanya on September 22 to mark the World Car Free Day 2013 and encourage fellow citizens to use public transport.
The cyclists began their trip at Jiefang Road, in the center of Sanya city, and pedaled through the city’s streets to reach their destination at Phoenix Island.
The year’s Car-Free Day has the theme of “Green Transport, Fresh Air”
The cycling enthusiasts who were part of Sunday’s rally included members of the Sanya Cycling Association, college students and low-carbon lifestyle advocators.
In an attempt to persuade more people to ride bicycles and reduce pollution in the city, the Sanya government is planning to reconstruct four road sections including Sanya Bay Road, Yinbing Road-Yalong Bay Road and Nanbianhai Road to include bicycle lanes and provide more convenience to cyclists
