The first Atlantis resort in China is to be built in Sanya’s Haitang bay, reports Sanya Daily.

Invested in by Shanghai Fosun High Technology (Group) Co., Ltd, the project was recently approved by the Municipal Government of Hainan province.

Guo Guangchang, CEO of Shanghai Fosun High Technology (Group) Co., Ltd said the preliminary design scheme of the project had been completed. Construction is expected to be completed within two and a half years after the final planning and design scheme is approved.

After completion, the luxury resort, with a total investment of around 10 billion Yuan, will contain facilities including hotels, villas, a water park, and an aquarium and become the third Atlantis resort in the world, following the ones in Dubai and the Bahamas.

According to reports, 11 high-end hotels including Sheraton, Hilton, Conrad, Karpinski and Renaissance Hotel & Resorts have opened for business in Haitang bay.

Meanwhile, the Westin Haitang bay and the InterContinental Sanya Haitang Bay Resort are expected to be put into service by the end of the year.
