The Sanya government has invested 576 million yuan into the reconstruction project of wastewater separation infrastructure in the Sanya Bay and Sanya River areas since December 2012, and the project is expected to be completed and put into operation by June 2014.

As part of the project, a 22.2-kilometer sewer split into 12 sections is planned, along with the reconstruction of a 0.85-kilometer sewer in the northeast of Sanya Bay. In addition, a new 1,632-meter rain pipe is planned in the New City Road.

Elsewhere, a 3,032-meter rain pipe insufficiently large will be rebuilt and an 11.6-kilometer rain pipe will be cleaned. As of now, 56% of the total engineering work has been completed, and the new sewage pipes are expected to be put into operation by the end of 2013.

The project in the Sanya River area was started at Hexi Road, Linchunhe Road and Fenghuang Road this April, and 60% of the total engineering work has now been completed, with the building of sewage pipes expected to be finished before June 2014.
