Sanya Marine Affairs Bureau has said it has uncovered a total of 391 marine transportation safety violations in the first half of 2013, of which 368 were general violations and 23 severe violations.

A total of 1,041 ships were inspected and 391 violations discovered during routine inspections conducted by local marine departments. A number of ships and enterprises were penalized.

Sanya has been facing growing issues in its marine security as the number of marine construction projects and marine tourism activities in the city have increased sharply in recent years.

Local officials said in order to ensure local marine security, local marine departments have implemented a number of measures including the increasing of routine inspections and strengthening of law enforcement capabilities.
