23 tourism ships penalized for safety violations and illegal operations in Sanya
23 tourism ships in Sanya have been penalized this year over severe safety violations and illegal operations, according to Sanya marine departments.
9 of the tourism ships were detained for severe safety violations, and the other 14 were fined over alleged illegal operations during routine security inspections undertaken by local marine departments.
Wen Jiang, the director of the Sanya Marine Security Administration, said Sanya has enjoyed rapid growth in its marine tourism in recent years. However, along with economic benefits, the accompanying risks have grown.
“Sanya has seen a growing number of tourism ship accidents in recent years, and although no fatalities were reported, they should be taken as a wake-up call for marine security” Said Wen.
Sanya marine departments have called for ship owners to conduct fully legal tourism operations and promote the healthy and sustainable development of marine tourism.
