According to reports, the number of foreign language volunteers in Sanya who have mastered English, Russian, Japanese, Korean or Vietnamese has reached 120.

Only 165,200 inbound tourists visited Hainan ten years ago, but in 2012 the number hit 450,000, undoubtedly at least in part thanks to the help of the foreign language-speaking volunteers.

The majority of volunteers are local tour guides, hotel receptionists, foreign language teachers or foreign language majors.

What’s more, the police station in Dadonghai area, which is the most frequently visited by foreign tourists, has nurtured its own group of volunteer translators to better serve foreign visitors.
