Sanya has launched new measures to simplify travel procedures for cross-border cruise tours, according to reports.

The move, which aims to further boost the city’s cruise economy, will allow any Chinese citizens to apply for permits for cross-border cruise tours simply by presenting their ID cards at their local Sanya frontier inspection station.

The new measures are expected to pass scrutiny from the national government in September and be put in to practice in October.

Hainan has embraced a boom in cruise tourism this year. To date, the province has received around 160 cruises, with around 114,500 tourists, almost double the number of the same period last year.
