According to a recent report on the Chinese Tourist Price Index (TPI) in the first half of 2013 released by the Tourism Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Sanya ranked 14th among 50 Chinese cities for the average expense of an overnight tour.

It showed that the most expensive Chinese city for average overnight tours is Dalian (Liaoning Province), while the cheapest is Xianyang (Shanxia)

The index was based on criteria including cost of hotel, city transport and ticket prices for A-level tourist spot.

Besides, as a typical tourist city, Sanya is directly affected by the tourism season and the city was ranked 6th among the cities for the TPI fluctuations due to the lower hotel room rates and airfares after the Chinese New Year Festival.
