According to a new measure introduced by Sanya Cultural and Sports Bureau to regulate the diving sector, diving practitioners across the city are to be required to be registered and obtain two certificates in order to legally run commercial diving businesses.

The two certificates include the professional diving certificate and the operating license issued by the bureau.

The measure comes as the General Administration of Sport recently issued a regulation on the management of highly dangerous sports, amongst which diving is included.

According to local authorities, there are 13 licensed diving operation agencies in Hainan and 12 of them are in Sanya.

The move aims to crack down on illegal diving activities, protect ocean resources and ensure the safety of tourists.

Diving practitioners who are found taking tourists to illegal diving spots will have related licenses suspended and receive a punishment.

The first batch of 8 diving operation companies and 327 diving practitioners have already registered and the date for the second batch will be from July 15th and 19th.
