In order to reduce the difficulty of catching a taxi downtown, the Sanya government is planning to deploy 250 public-owned taxis with global-positioning systems (GPS) on-board around the city.

The President of the Sanya Guangda Bus Group Zhou Shijun said that the company has hired more than 600 taxi drivers and is training them in the company’s rules and regulations, service etiquette and comprehensive quality.

According to Zhou Shijun, unlike in the city's other taxi companies, these drivers will be employed as the company’s staff to make sure that each driver is available at a specific area at a specific time.

These new public-owned taxis are expected to be put into service between the end of July and early August.
