Sanya Culture and Sports Bureau recently announced that a citywide ban will be enforced on folk performances in Sanya’s major parks and squares after 10pm.

According to the new rules, folk performances are not allowed to run past 10pm in the evening at the city’s major parks and squares and the volume of the music should be kept below 60 dB.

As night falls, a great variety of performers descend on the squares and parks of the city, offering everything from Xinjiang dance to teenager-friendly disco, Hainan Opera, guitar performances, street dancing and even public Karaoke competitions.

However, many residents and tourists living nearby have complained about the loud music almost every night, which seriously affects their ability to get a good night’s sleep.

Any people or groups violating the rule will be given an oral warning on the first occasion, and those who continue to do so will be fined and their equipment confiscated.
