Sanya transport authority has launched a thorough safety inspection to prevent severe traffic accidents after a deadly BRT bus fire which killed 47 people in Xiamen.

Bus companies have been ordered to carry out checks for hidden dangers. Each bus must be installed with hammers and fire extinguishers to allow passengers to break windows in an emergency.

Besides the regular safety checks on public transportation, bus drivers can refuse to provide service to passengers who are found carrying dangerous or potentially explosive items.

Passengers can also call police and warn drivers if any suspicious are spotted on the bus.

Major bus routes in service across the city will also show signs to educate more passengers on safety measures for bus fire accidents.
