The new expansion phase of the Haikou Meilan Airport duty-free store is to open for business in the second half of this year, according to the airport authority.

The store has made plans to increase the business area to around 6,000 square meters, with 1,000 square meters to be added this year.

To maximize the impact of the new space, the company will redesign its stores, introduce new brands and de-list less popular brands.

At present, a number of internationally-recognized brands have been introduced to the store, including Channel, La Mer, La Prairie, Sulwhasoo, Sisley, Bobbi Brown and Laneige.

Meanwhile, one of the largest duty-free chocolate shops in China , with a shop floor of around 220 square meters, is also open in the store, offering more than 2,000 different chocolate items from around 30 international chocolate brands, including Ferrero Rocher, Belgian, Lindt, Leonidas, Valrhona, Anthon Berg, Toblerone, Hershey’s and Ducd’o.

By 2014, the duty-free sales at Haikou Meilan Duty-free Store are expected to hit 1 billion yuan.

Apart from the expansion of the duty-free store, the airport will improve its management of the food and beverage area and will enhance their ranges and a new food street with Hainan dining characteristics will be added at the airport’s departure hall.
