In 2012, excellent and good air quality in Sanya was reported for 366 days, 100% of the time, according to figures released by the Hainan Provincial Environmental Protection Bureau.

Besides, the water quality of the urban centralized drinking water sources achieved water standard Level II which met the regulatory requirements.

The sea water quality of 10 sea areas, including Haitang Bay, Yalong Bay, Dadonghai area, Sanya Bay, Tianyahaijiao area, Wuzhizhou Island and Sanya port, all reached marine water standard levels.

However, traffic noise pollution during the monitoring days increased over the previous year. The Sanya government has taken a series of measures to improve the management of noise pollution.
