May 28th, on the Nandu River in Haikou city a ferry capsized, resulting in 6 deaths while injuring 4 others, and prompted the Sanya maritime bureau to take emergency action to check security risks at Sanya’s ferries and further improve ferryboat management.

As of now, Sanya boasts 6 ferry piers including Sanya port and Hongsha port and these port authorities were required to strengthen the security management.

Moreover, all the operating ferryboats must be licensed, safe and seaworthy. Crewmembers without certificates of competency or other equivalent documents will be prohibited from serving onboard, and safety lifesaving equipment must meet the specifications.

The Sanya maritime bureau will fight resolutely against the illegal operation of unqualified ferryboats around the city's ocean areas.
