In response to the horrific elevator accident in Shenzhen on May 15th, Sanya has launched a high-profile inspection of city’s escalators and elevators.

According to Sanya Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision, the escalators and elevators in hotels, hospitals, supermarkets, railway stations, airports, residential communities and other public places were checked last year, with the passing rate reaching 80%.

In recent years, with the rapid development of the real estate market, the numbers of elevators installed in the city has also seen fast growth. Incomplete statistics from the Sanya Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision show that the city has installed about 5,000 elevators so far.

Besides, as many large scale conferences and meetings are held in Sanya every year, routine checks and maintenance will be conducted ahead of major big events and public national holidays to tackle the potential safety risks of elevators
