Haitang Bay sees rapid growth for Sanya’s hospitality industry.

Sanya is likely to see the highest rate of growth to date in its hospitality industry as its hotel expansion has been at a rate unprecedented in China. The city has attracted over 40 international hotel operators to open new hotels in the city.

Compared with Yalong Bay, there is far more potential within the luxury hotel market in Haitang Bay. The first phase of the newly built Haitang Bay International Shopping Center is set to open at the end of this year, and will satisfy the huge demand for duty-free shopping and boost the local tourism industry.

Gerd Knaust, the GM of Conrad Sanya Haitang Bay and Doubletree by Hilton, holds a positive view of Haitang Bay’s hotel market and notes that it is likely to surpass Yalong Bay to attract more tourists on leisure vacations thanks in part to the many major high-end hotel brands operating.

There are currently 11 luxury hotels in operation in Haitang Bay, which is capable of accommodating over a million tourists annually.

Mr. Gerd Knaust also said the Hilton Worldwide Group plans to open 36 new hotels in China, of which 10 will be in Hainan.
