There is a degree of optimism for the Sanya hotel operators that this month will see a slight recovery in hotel occupancy as MICE travel is picking up despite the fact that the off-season has kicked in.

Sanya bookings are improving this month as the city welcomed a large scale tour group for MICE business on May 6th, which was staying in Yalong Bay and Dadonghai areas.

MICE travel is not only a source of benefit to hotels, but also gives an economic boost to the city’s catering, trade and scenic spot industries.

Currently, the city is equipped with comprehensive tourist facilities, including more than 250 star hotels providing all levels of accommodation from luxury high-end hotels to budget inns, together with 31 scenic spots, 13 diving companies and 9 international standard golf clubs and 145 professional travel agents.

According to Tang Sixian, the Vice Director of the Sanya Tourism Development Commission, May to September is the traditional off-season for the Sanya tourism market, many star-rated hotels are launching promotional offers to lure more tourists. During this period, many companies are considering Sanya as their MICE destination to save money.
