Hotel operators in Sanya are trying to cope with the off season by launching various promotional offers to attract more tourists to visit the tropical coastal city.

Most star-rated hotels in Sanya Bay, Yalong Bay and Dadonghai areas have seen a 20% to 30% drop in occupancy rates since the end of the May Day holiday.

A marketing executive at Ocean Sonic Resort Sanya in Sanya Bay, said that the hotel's occupancy rate is about 50 percent currently, a significant drop compared to the 95% during the May Day holiday.

In an effort to boost business, the hotel is offering a three plus one promotion and the guests who stay for four nights will get the fourth night free.

Compared to seaside hotels, the occupancy rate of Sanya's Le Parker International Hotel downtown also declined 30%.
