Drivers and those unfamiliar with the roads were most affected by too many confusing signs at Sanya Around-the-city Highway.

Recently, the Hainan Traffic Bureau received many complaints and suggestions concerning road signs, especially the road signs for the Haikou and Sanya around-the-city highways.

Some new drivers and those unfamiliar with the roads were affected by too many confusing signs.

“I unable to read the highway road signs easily because there are too many signs in one spot or the signs are parallel to the road, said a local driver from Hainan.

Besides, instead of facing drivers, some road signs have been covered by tree leaves and traffic lights, where oncoming drivers cannot see them until they drive past.

‘Sanya is building itself into an international tourist city,’ he said. ‘There are people from other countries and from the mainland driving here. We should not have this problem.’

Residents and tourists are urging related traffic departments to check all highway road signs in the city.

‘Representatives from the department should drive along all the roads and get a user’s perspective and review all the signs,’ some drivers said. ‘Very often they are not designed from a user’s point of view.’
