According to the Sanya Transport Bureau, the city will see changes made to the taxi service as 250 new taxis will be added on the roads by Sanya Guangda Taxi Company before this August.

Differing from the previous operation model, the company will adopt a corporate structure of taxi management that all the drivers are their former employees and are not allowed to start their own businesses.

In the past, many taxi drivers who wanted to join taxi companies had to pay huge monthly rental fees. Under such economic pressure, most taxi drivers are found refusing to pick up passengers or deliberately taking passengers to scenic spots to get kickbacks.

"The taxi drivers will not only get normal payment as employees, but can also benefit from more work", said the person responsible in the taxi company.

Taxi drivers are an important city image of Sanya. The local traffic department is dedicated to improving the taxi service image among tourists.
