According to a list released by the China Tourism Academy and Ctrip.com, a leading travel portal in China on May 1st, Sanya topped the most popular tourist destinations in China during the 3-day May Day holiday.

Following Sanya, other popular domestic destinations included Xiamen, Lijiang, Hangzhou and Guilin. Affected by the Sichuan Lushan’s Earthquake, Chengdu was not on the top 10 ranking list this year.

As for the number of departures, the top three cities were Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou.

In terms of outbound travel, Hong Kong has become the first choice destination for Chinese tourists, followed by Thailand and South Korea.

Statistics also showed that the prices for travel tours during the holiday increased 20% to 30% compared to normal.
