Haikou to offer RMB150 mln in subsidies to aviation and travel agency sectors
The Haikou government plans to grant a subsidy of 150 million yuan to its aviation and travel agency sectors in 2014, to encourage the expansion of the air market as its major origins of tourists, announced the local government at a press conference on May 22nd.
The Tentative Measures on Subsidizing Expansion of Hainan’s Air Passenger Market released Thursday is said to aim at boosting flights flying in and out of Haikou Meilan International Airport, encouraging better quality flights and ensuring the stable operation of flights in the off-season.
According to statistics from 2006 to 2013, Haikou’s government allocated a total financial support of 360 million yuan to the aviation sectors. In 2013, Haikou Meilan Airport has seen their annual passenger volumes topping 10 million, edging themselves into the rank of large airports in China.
The implementation of the measures is expected to attract 140 million more tourists to Haikou Meilan Airport and make it rank among list of China’s top 20 airports
