8 killed, 7 injured in car accident on Shenyang-Haikou expressway
Eight people died and seven were injured when a bus rolled after crashing into a truck early Monday in east China's Jiangsu Province, said local authorities.
Four people, including the bus driver, died at the scene, and four others died in hospital after the accident on the Binhai County section of the Shenyang-Haikou expressway, said a spokesman for the publicity department of the provincial committee of the Communist Party of China.
Seven injured bus passengers, including three seriously hurt, are being treated in hospital. Thirteen others were taken to hospital for observation, said the spokesman.
A Shandong-registered truck hit a guardrail at around 4:30 a.m. and blocked the expressway. An Anhui-registered truck carrying power poles maneuvered round the first truck, but was hit by the bus from behind.
The bus was designed to carry 43 people, but 48 were aboard when the accident happened, said the spokesman.
Traffic resumed at 9 a.m. on the expressway.
Police are investigating the accident.
