As part of a massive preservation project aiming to restore the ancient layout of Yacheng Town, the first phase reconstruction has been completed recently.

The first phase reconstruction includes the rebuilding of the street network of the ancient town district: Qilou Street, some ancestral residences and the renovation of a section of city wall.

The early-stage design and renovation work started in 2009 and is progressing well to better re-present its cultural and historical charm in ancient times.

Yacheng is quite a unique and famous ancient town. It was awarded the title of "Famous Historical and Cultural Town of China" by the national government in 2007.

The government is planning to invest an additional 150 million yuan in the second phase of the renovation project.
