The big grouper has a length of 1.8 meters and weight over 140 kilograms.

 

Several of Sanya’s anglers caught an over 140-kilogram grouper in the city’s offshore area on Wednesday evening.

Mr. Jia, who found the giant grouper around 9:00pm, said "Initially I thought it was a medium-sized fish, but then I felt the pressure of the water and realized it was a big fish."

After an exhausting hour-long struggle, the fish, measuring 1.8 meters and weighing over 140 kilograms, was subdued and finally hauled into the yacht boat with the help of other 3 anglers.

“I am so excited because this is the biggest fish I have ever caught”, said Mr. Jia.

After the fish had been taken out of the boat, many fishermen and residents were shocked by its size and took pictures with the giant fish.

Local fisherman Mr. Fang told reporters that it was the biggest grouper he had seen in 10 years. It is a less common type of fish.
