The rail section between Sanya International Phoenix Airport and downtown Haikou is expected to start construction in the third quarter of this year.

Approved by the country’s Ministry of Railways last year, the Haikou railway section stretches a total of 332 km with investment totaling 26.17billion yuan.

The Hainan Western Ring Railway, running between Haikou and Sanya, is 342.3 kilometers long, and will pass through the 16 cities, including Chengmai, Lingao, Danzhou, Changjiang, Dongfang, Ledong, Fushan, Haitou, Huangliu and more along the way.

The Hainan Western Ring Railway is listed as one of the most significant infrastructure projects in Hainan. The project construction consists of two rail sections: Sanya downtown and Sanya International Phoenix Airport and Sanya International Phoenix Airport and Haikou downtown.
