Sanya patrols its 65 islands aided by GPS system
In order to protect the marine environment and ensure the sustainable development of its coastline resources, the Sanya government recently conducted inspections on 65 nearby islands aided by GPS technology.
Sanya has a total maritime area of 3,600 square kilometers, a total coastline of 258.649 km and 72 tropical islands. Of these, only 65 were positioned and patrolled with the GPS system because the other 7 islands lie within the military restricted area.
The Sanya authority has announced that they have established an islands profile management center and will set up a management profile for each island.
To protect the marine ecosystem, the Sanya government will further strengthen efforts to fight against all kinds of illegal tourist activities, such as illegal diving activities on reef preservation area.
