First Class 1 Grand Prix to be held in Sanya on March 28-30
The bustling city port of Sanya on the southern tip of Hainan Island will provide one of the most diverse and exciting backdrops of the year when the season kicks off with the historic first Class 1 Grand Prix to be held in China on 28-30 March.
Visun Group, the organiser of the event and the exclusive Hainan Rendezvous – China’s leading Luxury Yacht and Jet show which is taking place at the same time – is well underway with its complex logistical operation to integrate an international powerboat event within a busy city port, and its lavish plans for corporate entertainment and on shore activities for what promises to be a unique event on an island and venue described as the Chinese Riviera.
The teams will immediately find themselves immersed in the centre of this thriving commercial and tourist destination; the location for the newly constructed dry and wet pits will bring the Class 1 boats into the heart of the hustle and bustle of the port to share the water with the fleets of traditional Chinese fishing boats and luxury super yachts moored opposite the imposing Visun Royal Yacht Club, giving the anticipated tens-of-thousands of spectators a grand-stand view when they motor out along the Sanya River and past the man-made Phoenix Island to the race course.
The course will run inside Sanya Bay, which sits on the edge of the South China Sea, and close to the busy Sanya sea front and promenades, and passing directly in front of the four luxury apartments that dominate Phoenix Island, the main port of call for international cruise liners.
