Many leading suppliers attended the Vendors Conference of CDF Haitang Bay International Shopping Complex held on March 9 in Sanya to advance the opening schedule for the world’s largest duty free shopping center on Hainan Island.

Among the 120 leading suppliers attending the Vendors Conference, more than 23 were invited on stage to sign a memorandum of understanding to co-operate on the landmark project, including Feeragamo, Bally, Zegna and LVMH, the first global luxury brand group.

At the conference, the CDFG president said that the trial opening of phase one would now be this December, which will followed by a grand opening of the initial phase in January 2014. The grand opening of the whole development is scheduled for August 2014.

The new facility will offer a rich selection for guests of the 35 five-star hotels in Haitang Bay and Yalong Bay, which will take pressure off the CDFG’s existing Sanya Duty Free Shop.

The implementation of the offshore duty free policy for Chinese visitors to Hainan in 2011 has generated tremendous returns. The duty-free turnover has been so far totaled 4.2 billion yuan with a daily average of 6.2 million yuan.
