A survey of Sanya hospitals has revealed that more than half of the emergency patients over the holiday week were suffering from colds, perhaps brought on by colder than normal weather.

Mr. Deng, the Director of the Emergency Department in the city’s People's Hospital, said tourists, especially children, were more susceptible to colds, fever and diarrhea caused by gastrointestinal discomfort because of changes in weather, a changed diet and overeating.

Patients with dyspepsia and alcoholism symptoms were also frequently seen in the city’s hospitals.

The ICU Director of Hainan Provincial Nongken Sanya Hospital Lin Sen said that it’s normal to see cases of pancreatitis and alcoholism caused by excessive drinking during the festive period.

He reminded citizens and tourists to enjoy alcohol in moderation and not to drink on an empty stomach, and said people who have drunk too much should attempt to throw it up.

On the other hand, this year the number of burn cases caused by fireworks accidents declined in Sanya, with only 4 such patients taken to the PLA 425 Hospital.
