On February 16, the Sanya government launched an investigation and decided to fine Sanya Diving Best Diving Center 100,000 yuan after it was found to be involved in commercial bribery.

The move follows recent media allegations that several tourism operations including Sanya Diving Best Diving Center have allegedly made profits by paying high kickbacks to taxi drivers and tour guides who bring them tourists.

In addition, the taxi drivers who took kickbacks have been fired. The Sanya Municipal Transportation Bureau said that greater efforts will be made to strictly crack down on some taxi drivers’ unscrupulous behaviors of cheating & ripping off customers and taking kickbacks.

The bureau is planning to implement a blacklist system so that taxi drivers on who have been caught out will no longer be employed by local taxi companies.
