Statistics from the local government showed that a total of 219 yachts docked at Sanya, of which 142 were from overseas regions and countries, making it the most popular place for overseas registered yachts in China.

Sanya has seen a surge in the number of domestic as well as overseas registered yachts sailing to the city compared with previous years.

During the week-long holiday, a total of 140 yachts from Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau and countries such as the UK and Japan called at the Sanya port, bringing more than 4,000 passengers.

Sanya has a total of 8 large marinas located at Phoenix Island and Yalong Bay and Peninsula, with 768 berths for yachts docking. By 2015, the number of yacht berths in Sanya will rank first in the country.

There are many marina clubs, both operating and currently under construction, in China, which are located in major coastal cities such as Tianjin, Qingdao, Ningbo, Shenzhen, Shanghai and Sanya.
