The green coverage rate and the green density in Sanya reaches 45.31% and 41.61% respectively and per capita green area reaches 18.97 square meters in the end of 2012.

In 2012, the Sanya government increased efforts in city landscaping projects by building and rebuilding 394,000 square meters of green areas.

To ease the problem of a shortage of public toilets in the streets, 7 new public toilets were built and 4 existing public toilets were upgraded in the city.

The government also completed the environmental sanitation facilities. At present, 7 garbage transfer stations are under construction.

And more than 240,000 tons of living waste and over 48,000 tons of landfill leachate has been dealt with, and 100% of the urban rubbish was treated without causing pollution in 2012.
