According to the 2012 China Sports Marketing Forum Annual Conference in Beijing on Jan. 8, Sanya and Wanning city in Hainan have been named among China's top 10 cities in sports marketing. 
 
Starting from last year, Wanning begins to host the China Dragon Boat Tournament every March. Besides, the city also holds the international surfing competition and the National Angling Championship every year.

As one of the stopover ports in the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012, Sanya hosted a fortnight of activities including the mixed-races, In-Port races and some cultural & sporting activities in February, 2012.
