According to the newly approved Sanya Cruise Ship Tourism Development Plan, Sanya will be forged into a top class cruise ship homeport and tourist destination.

The Sansha (South China Sea) cruise line, which will start from Phoenix Island International Cruise Terminal, is planned to help visitors explore the beauty of the South China Sea. The plan also included a “Maritime Silk Road” cruise line, which is set to have a 10 to 20 days voyage from Sanya, making way through Leizhou Peninsula in Guandong Province, Da Nang in Vietnam, Malacca in Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Bombay in India, Muscat in Oman, Aden in Arabian Peninsula, Port Tewfik in Egypt, and then heading towards Sanya via Singapore.

Sanya's cruise lines will be divied into four categories including homeporting cruise routes, international affiliated routes, domestic routes and special themed routes.

According to the plan, the cruise lines covering northern bays are considered, and the target consumers are middle-income people.
