Sanya plans to host International Woodball Open Tournament in March, 2013
To better promote woodball as global sport, Sanya is planning to host the International Woodball Open Tournament in March of 2013 after a short visit to Taiwan by a Hainan tourism delegation.
According to the schedule, more than 350 contestants from over 20 countries are expected to attend the event, including players from Taiwan, a hub for the promotion of the game.
Mr Weng Minghui, the President of the International Woodball Federation said that he invented woodball in the early 1990s and later introduced it to the mainland in 1995.
After two preliminary visits to Sanya last November and in June of this year, he has concluded that Sanya would be the best place to hold the woodball competition with its unique beach resources.
Woodball is very easy to learn. The players just need to strike the woodball into the goal with the wooden club. It is a healthy sport for both the young and the old.
