More than 100 delegates attended the China Airport Commercial Summit in Hainan this week
The final day of the fourth China Airport Commercial Summit in Sanya began yesterday with a session chaired by World Duty Free Group international operations director Pedro Castro.
A presentation by Hainan island’s Haikou Meilan International airport vice-president Yang Xuqiang emphasised the importance of a single idea and concept at an airport to enable a master plan to work properly in an airport.
The conference also featured a presentation focusing on driving commercial revenue improvement at Denver International airport. CCO John Ackerman emphasised the value of an airport’s ownership of surrounding land and explained the opportunities now facing Denver International as expansion takes place at North America’s largest airport measured by land area.
The event examined the opportunities and challenges of airport commercial activates.
A panel discussion led by conference co-chairman DFNI editor Bill Lumley examined the question of stimulating airport retail business to make it more attractive than a downtown shopping mall, what effects would be required to introduce top brands to airports and in particular reasonable rent fees for concessionaires at airports.
Sessions on e-commerce and the mutual beneficial co-operation stimulating the development of practical e-commerce solutions concluded the second day’s presentations which were followed by a visit by delegates to China Duty Free Group’s downtown duty-free store in Sanya, one of the few tax-free retail locations in China.
