Sanya housing rental market on the rise during winter season
Compared with the stagnant housing market in most parts of Chinese mainland cities, the housing rental market in Sanya is seeing an increase in rental prices.
The rent increase is mainly due to the increasing demand for ‘snow birds’, who often come from the Chinese northern regions to get away from the cold.
Mr. Su, who has worked in real estate in Sanya for many years, said that the months between October and the next Spring Festival will see a vast increase in prices. Rent will be double or even more than double during this period. After the Spring Festival, the housing rental market will fall to its normal rate.
Depending on the location the prices for housing rental will also differ greatly. For instance, the cost of houses in a general city location for a 50-sqm house during this period will be 700 yuan more than other times of the year. Houses by the sea will also cost 1000 yuan more than other times of the year.
Statistics have shown that houses by the sea are popular with ‘snow birds’ when renting a house, along with convenient transportation links. There are only a limited number of houses near the sea available, not enough to meet the increasing demand.
