Sanya animation industry emerges as a new engine for economic growth

Hainan Animation Industry Base, which features a combination of culture, technology and tourism, is an emerging and increasingly important zone for Sanya’s economy and is expected to become a new engine for the city’s economic development.

Located at the Jiyang Avenue of Jiyang Town, the Hainan Animation Industry Base has attracted over 30 animated-related enterprises since 2008.

Compared with other cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Dalian which have created preferential policies to support their animation industries, Hainan animation is still in its infancy. However, several Hainan animations that have been produced through the base highlight the fast development in its cartoon, 3D animation and film industries within last the three years.

After two years of construction, the second phase of the animation base was put into operation. Covering a construction area of 150,000 sqm, the project has a total investment of 1 billion yuan and is regarded a major catalyst for the growth of the Hainan animation industry.

More than 300 renowned domestic enterprises will settle at the base and the total turnover generated for Hainan tourism will exceed 3 billion yuan after it is completed in 2015.
