Bedford golfer Holly Aitchison came a superb second at the Sanya Ladies Open in China at the weekend.

The 25-year-old was two shots behind eventual winner Cassandra Kirkland of France.

A run of four birdies in the last five holes had put her right in the mix for the final day and, with two holes to play, she was back in 11th. Two birdies on the last two holes saw her finish on four under for a share of second place with Jade Schaeffer, while it also put her 35th in the ISPS Order of Merit.

Aitchison said: “I didn’t hole as many putts as I’d have liked.

"I played pretty solid, made a couple of mistakes, but that was expected in the wind.”
