The exciting completion ceremony for the ring roads of the Zhaoshu Island, one of the Xisha Islands in the Sansha City which is the newest and southernmost city in China, was held on the morning of November 10th. It marked the first completed infrastructure project by the municipal government after the official establishment of the city on July 24th.

The road construction project started on December 30th, 2011 with a total investment of 2.5 million yuan. Spanning a total length of 1.6 kilometers, the project aimed not only to solve problems of traffic congestion for the local residents, but also to provide water drains to conserve the environment of the island.

Since the improvement of the island’s environment, many birds have flocked there and are setting up home on the island because of its ideal habitat. The local government wishes to work towards building the island into a city of harmony between humanity and nature.
