Two institutions founded to protect and preserve the Li Minority’s cultural heritage held their unveiling ceremonies on Wednesday at Heitu Village, Tianya Town in Sanya.
The two traditional training institutions are the Institute of Li Pottery Techniques and the Institute of Traditional Li Spinning, Dyeing and Weaving Techniques.
Sanya has long been developing its traditional Li pottery and weaving techniques industry. However, society and the economy have developed in such a way that many young people born in the village leave in order to make a living. People who have obtained rare and special skills grow old and these techniques are facing the danger of dying out if they are not handed down to younger generations.
The establishment of institutions will not only help to effectively preserve the cultural heritage, but will also bring economic benefits to the villages’ natives in the future
