The unveiling ceremony for the ‘Green Mall’ was held at Sanya Summer Mall recently, which has become the first 1st ‘Green Mall’ on Hainan Island through the installation of a new 0.3-MW solar PV system on its top roof.

The solar PV system is invested in by the Hainan Tianneng Electricity Co., Ltd., and is engineered for an estimated use period of 25 years. Electricity generated by the system will feed the mall’s lighting and normal operations energy requirements.

As a piloted project to promote the development of clean energy, the solar PV system provides an annual power generation of 39,000 kwh and helps reduce the 7,878 tons of carbon dioxide and 63.375 tons of sulfur dioxide emitted into the atmosphere per year.

Apart from advocating a low carbon economy, the system will encourage green ideals by making the building more attractive and acting as a thermal-protective layer from high temperatures.
