An artist’s rendition of the wetland park
 
On the afternoon of Oct 25th, a mobilization meeting was held in Sanya for the transformation of Sanya East Coast urban village and the construction of a new wetland park, which marks the official start of the land acquisition and relocation work.

According to reports, the demolition area for the construction of the wetland park will occupy 1,400,000 square meters. The number of dismantled houses is said to have reached 2415, with 2498 relocated households. The gross floor area of the transformation project is 2,760,000 square meters, amongst which the residential construction area occupies 1,620,000 square meters, with a commercial building area of 1,140,000 square meters.

The transformation of the urban village and the construction of the wetland park will be conducted in three stages. Lasting from December 2012 to December 2018, the project will be completed within 6 years.

According to Zhu Yunshan, the vice mayor of Sanya, the construction of key projects should set priorities for the future. The government holds responsibility for providing policy guidelines for achieving the highest standards of service in resource conservation, public access and recreation.
