On October 23rd the 2012 Sanya Nanshan Healthy Longevity Cultural Festival was held in Nanshan. During this year’s festival a large-scale cultural entertainment show was held in the Nanshan Cultural Tourism Area. Selected healthy senior citizens were awarded prizes at the event.

According to reports, the number of centenarians in Hainan has now reached 1,610, which means that there are 17.73 people over 100 per 100,000 citizens residing in the province. It is estimated that the permanent aging population in Hainan will reach 1,378,000 in 2015, accounting for 14.66% of the total population, with 225,000 elderly people over eighty years old.
Held once every other year, the Nanshan Longevity Cultural Festival honors senior citizens and features art and cultural performances, as well as painting, calligraphy and other assorted activities.
