The second annual China Travel Retail (CTR) event is to take place in Sanya on the island of Hainan on May 8–9 2013. The enlarged event follows the success of last year’s inaugural CTR showpiece in Shanghai. Over 190 delegates attended CTR 2012, and organisers are targeting more than 350 this time around.

The CTR Sanya event will involve a two-day conference, over 10 hours of networking events and one-to-one speed-networking meetings. It will also feature an expanded exhibition, with up to 25 companies already looking to take stands. A gala dinner for delegates, exhibitors and speakers will also take place on the first night.

Ink chief executive Jeffrey O’Rourke said: “The feedback from our first China Travel Retail conference was fantastic. As a launch event it has been our most successful conference ever. Not only are delegates and exhibitors already enquiring about 2013, but we are confirming very high-profile speakers to address the enlarged, premium audience that will come to Sanya in May next year.”

Delegates will be able to enjoy a tour of both Sanya Phoenix International airport and China Duty Free Group’s downtown store. GIS events founder and president Nick Tan added: “China Travel Retail 2012 was the first conference we have staged where 70% of the delegates were Chinese. On the flip side, 70% of the speakers were western and as expected, both sides got a tremendous amount of value. The format worked superbly and the feedback has been excellent. It enabled industry leaders, local businesses and western brands to mix, share ideas and build lasting relationships. Our launch event truly lived up to its billing of ‘East Meeting West’, and we will build on that in 2013 in Sanya.”
