Since the launch of a pilot duty-free program aimed at boosting high-end shopping and expanding consumption among tourists in April 2011, Sanya’s duty-free stores have now become the city’s main attraction, with an average number of 10,000 customers daily.

During this year’s National Day holiday, many tourists flocked to the Sanya duty-free store. A total of 13,746 shoppers were recorded on October 2nd and sales on October 5th reached 6.3 million yuan. A number of travel agencies outside Sanya also used the duty free shop to attract customers.

In Sanya duty free store customers can find fantastic savings (up to 35% off purchases) on a wide range of products, including jewelry, handicrafts, watches, perfumes and cosmetics. During the Golden Week, there were lucky draws held with a variety of prizes to be won in-store. Aside from themed activities which were held everyday during the holiday, the store also provided discounts on many brands and launched various promotions.

Data has shown that the success of Sanya’s duty-free store has stimulated the growth of duty-free products in Hainan and promoted tourism in the province. It has also expanded the influence of the International Tourism Island.
