Sanya government departments recently joined forces in launching an overall inspection on illegal diving activities in the ocean surrounding the city.

The inspection is divided into on-water and on-land areas. As of September 8th, more than 10 diving sites at Yalong Bay, Queen Bay and Tielu Port near Wuzhizhou Island have been found to be operating without licenses.

Driven by profits, these unlicensed diving operators scattered throughout some tourism bays and other undeveloped areas in Sanya often compete with each other by offering lower and lower prices, which not only leads to an anarchic diving industry but also puts tourists’ safety in danger.

As well as this, these illegal diving companies often fail to provide proper guidance and allow tourists to damage underwater features, especially coral reefs.
