The National Tourism Star-Grade Hotel Assessment Commission recently has announced on the official website that it has decided to cancel the five-star qualification of Howard Johnson Resort Sanya Bay after the exposure of food poisoning case this early month.
 
On August 12, 141 vacationers were sent for medical treatment after their breakfast from 7 am to 10 am in the hotel.
 
In response to the case, Sanya City Food and Drug Administration also confiscated materials used to make food that allegedly sickened vacationers. Service at the hotel's restaurant has been suspended.

Salmonella was detected in samples from the suspect food.
 
The hotel has been fined 618,000 yuan and made compensation for the patients after being investigated.
 
Local government has also called for supervision of food security in its restaurants, including those in hotels, to be strengthened.
